Two Women in Tech Creating Canada’s Only Online Marketplace for Canadian-based Wholesalers and Dropshippers in the wake of COVID-19

The online marketplace is unprecedented and has been created to save and serve Canadian businesses by creating online storefronts for their products and services and position them for success for the global market.

The Saskatoon-based tech, women in tech start-up made of team members Lisa McNab (Unbound Market), Fiyin Obayan (Okiki Consulting), wanted to create a forum that would serve Canadian based businesses. They noticed a gap for companies that lacked an online presence and platform for their products, and how that contributed in part to their major losses during COVID-19. With a heart to bring aid in the restoration of jobs, local businesses in Saskatchewan and the Canadian economy, the idea for the company name CANBABA was born.

They were accepted and completed in Cultivator’s START Program, which is an idea incubator program for tech startups based in Regina. They are also currently in the Founders Table Women in Tech Program run by Women Entrepreneurs of Saskatchewan.

What is CANBABA?

The platform is the only Canadian-based wholesaling and dropshipping network in the world. It connects Canadian makers, retailers, manufacturers, producers and wholesalers with qualified business buyers or resellers from around the globe who will resell their products. It’s structure is similar to Alibaba, in the sense that products will be ordered in bulk but the products provided are Canadian-based. Through CANBABA, Canadian business owners will be connected with thousands of skilled ecommerce marketers and sales professionals from around the world that aren’t on their payroll.

What do you mean by B2B?

It’s a B2B, meaning it’s a business to business marketplace full of multiple types of storefronts and products listings from practically every Canadian based industry. The product listings are displayed to everyone with bulk quantities only and require a minimum order quantity. By going the B2B wholesaling & dropshipping route, it allows sellers to offer their products for resale to people in hundreds of countries and our platform won’t have to compete with eBay, Amazon and other online consumer platforms. Buyers and marketers, will have access to high quality Canadian goods that aren’t oversaturated. Canadian ecommerce has never been done before quite like this.

What are the benefits?

The benefits of CANBABA is that it is free to sign up for an account and for Canadian business owners to set up a storefront for their product listings, using modern and user friendly templates. It is also free for the buyers and resellers to create accounts. Instead of dealing with the back and forth of order sheets and phone calls, wholesale can now be processed simply and digitally. The faster the ordering process is the for the vendors, the more repeat sales they incur and it increases sustainability for the business. Currently, vendors can even create an account through their Facebook account.
